Tumble Pup Collar Care

We chose waxed canvas with a dog’s rough and tumble lifestyle in mind. This rugged material invented by sailors is still used today for its water-resistance, durability and sustainability. We think it’s the perfect dog collar material because it resists water, dirt, and stink; cleans easily, and wears in beautifully with a natural patina over time.
Follow the easy maintenance tips below to keep your collar looking good.
How to care for your waxed canvas collar
Cleaning:
Dogs will be dogs, so if your pup gets into a mud puddle and their collar needs spot cleaning, you can do one of two things.
- Let the dirt or spot dry and brush it off with a soft bristle brush. This may be all you need to do to freshen it up.
- If part of the dirt or stain still remains, use cold water and a mild castile soap (like Dr. Bronner’s or Otter Wax Castile Soap Canvas Cleaner) to clean it. Gently rub the soap and water on with a sponge, rinse, and allow to air dry.
DO NOT wash with warm or hot water, use abrasive soaps, or machine wash. These things will release the protective coating that the wax creates and reduce the water-resistance of the fabric.
Re-wax as necessary:
Over time and with use, the fabric may lose some of its water-resistance and need to be re-waxed. We recommend Otter Wax Fabric Wax. Simply rub the wax into the fabric, allow it to cure for 24-48 hours, and it’ll be ready for the next adventure.
